Elementary Summer School Information

Greetings Pirate Families:

We are excited for your student to participate in our summer school program with us.  We hope your student has an enriching and rewarding experience. There will be an emphasis on ELA (English Language Arts) and math.  In addition, there will be fun activities embedded in the day.  Summer school will be from 8 am to 3 pm. If you have any questions in regards to the following information, please contact a summer school administrator via email which is located at the bottom of this letter.  Summer school will be from June 2nd through June 13th.  Here is some information about the summer school program we would like for you to be aware of:

  • Doors will open at 7:30 am, and breakfast will be served from 7:30 am to 8:30 am.

  • If your student is not eating breakfast, incoming 2nd through 5th grade students will go to the gym and sit in their class lines.  Incoming first graders will go to the music room along with special services students.

  • There will be staff members outside to help assist your child to get into the building at the beginning of the day.   Please stay in your vehicles to help with the flow of drop off for the safety of everyone.

Contact Information: Please make sure we have an up to date phone number in case of an emergency or illness. On the contact information sheet, please list who will be picking your student up if they are a car rider. We will identify adults the first day and car rider cards will be used after that.

Car arrival: Doors will open at 7:30 am.  Students will be dropped off at the front north entrance of Veterans Elementary.   If a parent/guardian needs to talk to the office staff, they will need to park in the north parking lot and enter the building.

Car dismissal : Begins at 2:50 pm

Every parent/guardian will be given two orange car rider cards to use, even if their child will always be a bus rider. They will have a card just in case a pick up is needed.

Students will bring the orange cards home the first day. Staff will also hand out orange cards as parents/guardians drop students off the first day.

Parents will need a photo id to pick up their child/children the first day. They MUST keep the orange card and show it everyday to the supervisors after that.

If a child is to have a change in plans on how to go home, the parent/guardian MUST call the school by 2:00pm so the child and staff can be informed of the change. The person picking up the child MUST be listed on the information form filled out for summer school otherwise they will have to pull forward into our holding spots and have proper identification ready while we contact the parent/guardian.

Car rider pickup is on the west side of Veterans on Veterans Road. Please enter our campus from the south end and form two lines once you get to the curve in the driveway. We can not block our exit back out onto Veterans Road.

Parent/guardians, please remain in or by your car for the safety of yourself and others. Staff will escort students to the correct line. You will be instructed on when to leave. Once you are in a lane for pick up, please DO NOT change lanes.

Bus Arrival: Buses will arrive between 7:50 and 8:05.

Bus Dismissal : Buses will arrive for dismissal around 2:55 pm. Special Education buses will arrive at 2:45 pm  for dismissal.  For the first couple of days, buses will be delayed due to making sure students are accounted for on the buses.

Medicines:  If you have medicine that needs to be dropped off at school, please park in the north parking lot.  Office staff will assist you with medicine drop off.

Illness: If a child is sent home sick with a fever, the student needs to be symptom free without the use of fever reducing medicine for 24 hours. If a student has diarrhea or vomiting, the student will be home 24 hours from when the illness occurred.

Sincerely,
